Illinois education budget is in crisis, and as many of you know, saving my kids' education has motivated me to act. If you've already written or phoned your legislators, thank you! Please keep it going! Here's a brief round-up of what is going on and/or ways you can get involved:
- Visit NOto37.org to tell your legislators to fund education. We have great representation in Chicago, but let's spread it downstate. EVERY school in Illinois stands to suffer if Gov. Quinn cuts $1.3 billion out of education funding.
- Join the Raise Your Hand Coalition to learn how our schools can band together to fight education cuts in a bloc. We'll have a meeting tomorrow night at Coonley school; we're looking for 1-2 leaders from each school to attend. Contact your PTA/PTO/LSC/friends-of president for meeting information. http://groups.google.com/group/ILraiseyourhand
- Send a letter to Ron Huberman and the Chicago Board of Education asking them to make room in the budget to fund teachers and learning over other initiatives and projects. I did!
- And while you're contacting your legislators, consider asking them to block the passage of HB6017.
